How to Grow

Cosmos 'Seashells Mixed' seeds can be started indoors from March to June or sown directly outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. They prefer a sunny position with well-drained soil, where they will produce elegant pastel blooms throughout the summer months.

  • Sowing

Sow the seeds thinly onto good seed compost and cover lightly, keeping the soil moist at all times. Place the tray in a warm, sunny spot to encourage germination during the spring sowing window.

  • Growing

Once seedlings are established, space them generously to allow tall, bushy growth, ideally in containers around 30 cm or garden beds. Support taller stems if necessary to maintain the elegant form of the plants as they develop from July to October.

  • Plant care

Water regularly during dry spells, although Cosmos 'Seashells Mixed' are drought tolerant once established. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming through late summer, and leave some seed heads at the end of the season to support wildlife or enable light self-seeding.
