Sow seeds evenly over damp compost in shallow trays and lightly press them down. Cover with a lid or tray to maintain warmth and moisture, essential for germination throughout the year.
Once the seeds sprout, remove the cover and place the trays in a sunny spot, such as a windowsill, ensuring even growth by rotating trays daily. Keep the compost consistently moist using a spray bottle to support the shoots as they grow to 5–10 cm tall.
Harvest microgreens when shoots reach 5–10 cm by cutting just above the soil line. Since most microgreens do not regrow, sow fresh trays every 1–2 weeks to maintain a steady supply. Rinse shoots before eating and continue growing indoors year-round, keeping the compost moist with regular misting.

Ideal for indoor growing, quick harvests, and nutritious additions to your cooking.

Microgreens have been popular with chefs since the 1980s for their intense flavours and nutritional value. These young plants are easy to grow indoors year-round and provide a fresh, colourful garnish or ingredient for salads, sandwiches and more.

Kale, amaranth and komatsuna are all nutrient-rich choices. It is an annual, completing its whole life in one season, so sow again the following year.
Yes — a seed set is one of the easier gifts to get right for someone who gardens, because it arrives as a collection rather than a single variety. Sowing runs January to December, so a packet given inside that window can go straight in, and one given outside it keeps perfectly well until the season comes round.
On effort it looks after itself, which matters if you are giving it to someone new to growing. It suits pots, windowsills and salads and garnishes, so it works for a small space as well as a garden.
