How to Grow

Rocket 'Wild Wasabi' can be sown outdoors from March to September in garden beds or containers, or grown indoors year-round in bright, cool conditions. It prefers moist soil and benefits from some light shade in hot weather to maintain tender, spicy leaves.

  • Sowing

Sow the wasabi rocket seeds thinly on damp, well-drained soil and cover them lightly to encourage quick germination. Starting seeds indoors or in pots during the sowing months helps maintain the steady moisture this plant requires.

  • Growing

Once seedlings reach a manageable size, thin or transplant them to allow 10–15cm spacing, giving each plant enough room to grow to around 30cm in height and spread within a 30cm pot. Regular watering is important, especially in containers, to keep the soil evenly moist.

  • Plant care

Maintain steady moisture by watering regularly without over-soaking, particularly in containers where drying out can stress the plants. Harvest young leaves frequently by cutting just above the base to encourage continuous growth and flavourful leaves. Sow new seeds every few weeks from March to September to ensure a constant supply, and allow some plants to flower for pollinators if the flavour becomes too strong.
